Independence Day
There are many things to observe and say about our visiting World Cup friends this July.
As America hosts this world wide event, the impressions these visitors are providing all of us are insightful.
Celebrating 250 years of this experiment in democracy, these travelers are reveling in our beer, food, accommodations ,hospitality, air conditioning and yes our transportation!
We sometimes forget just how expansive and majestic this country truly is. The visitors find our beauty inspiring.
They are surprised that what they are experiencing is not what they have been listening to – the rancor heard on talk radio, mainstream news and other media.
Ask yourself why these visitors seem to view the glass as half full – and why are WE more apt to see the same things as a glass half empty?
My advise is to get off the phone, turn off the tv, tread lightly on the internet and talk to your neighbors. Look around at what WE take for granted.
Show a bit of grace and compassion to others. Explore the endless possibilities around you.
Celebrate this upcoming Holiday through the lens of appreciation for a country born on the principles of freedom and opportunity.
Never perfect, never satisfied - but always trying to improve on this 250 year old test of ideas.
